Error when trying to run windows update for Microsoft Windows Server 2008 "Windows could not search for new updates" Errors found: Code 800B0100

Problem

If you get an error when trying to run windows update for Microsoft Windows Server 2008 Standard x64 "Windows could not search for new updates" Errors found: Code 800B0100

 

Resolution

1.  If Windows server is a virtual machine, make sure you log in to it via RDP (remote desktop connection) 

2.  Disable Windows Firewall. Click on Start -> Control Panel -> Windows Firewall

3.  Click on Try Again, it should start downloading updates
