Unable to install, Run or Update Malwarebytes on an infected computer
Problem
After being infected with a virus you are not able to run, install or update Malwarebytes.
Resolution
- Download Malwarebytes to an external drive or directly to your desktop
- Rename the mbaum.exe to "somethingelse".exe , example: iurn45ho.exe and run it
- Run through setup as normal, from the desktop.
After setup is complete, try running the software as normal. If nothing happens:
- Navigate to the folder "C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware" and create a copy of the "mbam.exe" file and rename it to "somethinelse".exe"and double-click to run it.
Run it. The software should run fine. If you cannot update the software because a virus is blocking internet connection, restart in "Safe mode with networking" by hitting the F8 key during boot up
Run the file again, you should now be able to update.
